This week on Cassandra’s blog she want to know the 5 best books about getting older. I have to think about this one.

  1. Between A Rock and a Hot Place: Why Fifty is not the New Thirty by Tracey Jackson: I mention this one first as it’s the latest one about aging I reviewed. It’s a funny look at what happens when we turn 50
  2. Girls Like Us: Fighting for a World Where Girls Are Not for Sale, an Activist Finds Her Calling and Heals Herself by Rachel Lloyd: This next book is actually about the sex trade business. It not only followes an ex sexually exploited woman as she gets out of the business, but it follows other young women as they go from young girls (8) to older girls (16 or so) and how they are emotionally stagnant yet physically mature.
  3. Devotion: A Memoir by Dani Shapiro: This book deals with a young Jewish mother who has lost her way with her faith as she has moved away from her family and began raising her own. We take a look back at her life as a child to where she is now as she takes the journey of finding herself again.
  4. A Child Called It, The Lost Boy: A Foster Child’s Search for the Love of a Family,A Man Named Dave: A Story of Triumph and Forgiveness: This trilogy follows a young boy that is abused by everyone around him, especially his parents who refuse to call him by his name and instead refer to him as “it”. During this journey we see the pain, the fear, the acceptance and finally the forgiveness.
